Grandparent's Day has been an officially recognized
holiday since being signed in by President Jimmy Carter in 1978. As a nice sentiment, September was chosen so
as to honor those people in the 'autumns of their lives.' The concept for a day honoring grandparents
was created by a woman named Marian McQuade from West Virginia Originally she put forth the idea to
recognize the elderly who were in nursing homes, but it quickly became known as
a day to honor all grandparents.
What do you call your grandparents? Gramma and
Grampa? Nana and Noni? Granny and Pop ? No matter what nickname
you use, make sure you honor them on their specific day of recognition:
GRANDPARENTS DAY on Sunday, September 13th!.
Spend time with them...take them out or have them over for
dinner...recognize them for the special people they are in your life.
Let Cactus Flower Florists help! Send a beautiful floral arrangement to enjoy
and let them know you're thinking of them.
Food is always a nice gift, such as a nice fruit basket to share, or
maybe a chocolate gift basket for gran or junk food basket for gramps. A plant, or dish garden or succulent garden
brings outdoors in, and this long-lasting gift will remind them of you every
time they look at it. After all, there's Valentine's Day to honor your sweetie,
Mother's Day for mom, Father's Day for dad.
If ever anyone deserved a day of recognition, it is the grandparents of
the world!
