A Beautiful Way to Purify Your Air

By this time of year, we Phoenicians start feeling cooped up in our air-conditioned homes, offices, and automobiles. Spending so much time indoors is bad for our health. Since indoor air quality is far worse than outdoor, we end up with allergies, headaches, asthma, and even diseases caused by these toxins.

There is a beautiful and inexpensive way to purify your indoor air: HOUSEPLANTS. Bringing green plants indoors cleans your air by removing hazardous chemicals such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene. Plants filter these toxins and create oxygen, making your indoor environment healthier.

NASA did a study on this very topic and came up with a list of the best plants to kill toxins. Here are a few that came out on top:
Dragon Tree Plant from Cactus Flower
Dragon Tree (Dracaena marginata)
Spathiphyllum Plant from Cactus Flower
Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)
Dracaena Plant from Cactus Flower
Variegated Corn Plant (Dracaena fragrans “Massangeana”)
Chinese Evergreen Plant from Cactus Flower
Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema modestum)

The next time you need to send a gift, think of a houseplant or dish garden. You'll be giving something long-lasting and health-promoting. Plants are appropriate for every occasion, and are the perfect gift for that someone who has everything.

NASA recommends 15-18 houseplants per household for optimum air quality. How many plants to you have?
